Notes, suggestions and precautions:
1. These do not come pre oiled for shipping purposes. We reccomend No Toil Oiling kits for both our intake filters and pre filters.
2. It is recommended (but not entirely necessary) that the SAS system be removed when installing a Rottweiler Intake System. See our SAS Stage Kits for options. If you skip the SAS removal options you will need to install a small filter where the SAS used to pull clean air from the stock airbox. These are commonly available here. See the Stage kits for reasons and explanations of what they do.
3. This 'Stage 1' kit requires trimming the rear velocity stack by 20 millimeters. While this works quite well for power and use, our Stage 2 option includes a more optimal TVS-80-59 billet velocity stack (x1 rear) which is a 'Tuned' bell-mouth replacement. This would be considered by tuning engineers as a more 'proper' setup for maximizing air flow and power outputs. These can also be purchased separately if the user prefers to tune with velocity stack lengths front and rear. You will NOT lose torque with these stacks. See dyno chart.
NOTE ABOUT VELOCITY STACKS: The Stage 2 and up Rottweiler Intake Kits come with one TVS-80-59 billet velocity stack for filter fittment and performance purposes. A second TVS-80-59 Tuned Velocity Stack will produce about 2 more horsepower across the RPM range and about 5 more near redline simply dropped in. 4. Installation of the Rottweiler Intake System on an Adventure 1190 test bike has been tested to stay within very safe air fuel ratios with completely stock mapping at sea level. Air Fuel Ratios (AFRs) tested averaged out around 13.5 consistently with no mapping added. That being said, we can in no way guarantee that every motorcycle will perform the same way although it is very likely. We would suggest the use of our 'Rottweiler Fueling Dongles' to bump up your low end air fuel ratios by .5 to 1 point. Your stock ECU (on every KTM twin) uses 2 different maps to pass EPA standards. What this means it that below 5000 RPM and 20% throttle, your ECU is in what is called 'Closed Loop' mode which causes it to 'listen' to the stock narrow band O2s and other measuring devices and keep the low end as close to 14.7 AFR as possible. This is what causes the surging and 'jerkiness' of most 990's. The Rottweiler Fueling Dongles send a preset signal back to the stock ECU that causes it to send fuel closer to 13.8 AFR in closed loop mode which is much closer in transition to the rest of the mapping above that. We have found that your average AFRs stay .5 to 1 full point lower with these dongles. If you plan on purchasing a Powercommander unit to maximize the result of your Rottweiler Intake System, it comes with these dongles and you will not need to purchase them separately. If you do not want a Powercommander at this time, the Rottweiler Fueling Dongles are a great way to smooth out power deliver and they are plug and play.

According to the book Tuning For Performance you can't feel less than a 10% increase in power . If that is true then the air box is increasing power more than 10% because you will feel more power.

A few months with the Stage 3 kit with the extra velocity stack on my 2016 1290r and I am ready to leave my review.
The SOUND is unreal. Its not like an exhaust note that is behind you.. this is under your chest, inside your chest, up your nose vibrating your nasal cavity. It truly sounds like a beast now. I do have sensitive ears so I wear earplugs all the time when riding and I can still feel pressure on my ears from the intake noise. Its insane!
The fueling dongles made a big difference to cruise areas and funny enough I actually was having flame out issues with the bike where it had shut off on me two or three times at low rpms when clutching. That problem has been totally solved by this kit. I also haven't noticed any difference in fuel economy.
It definitely helps up top power wise but its hard to tell exactly how much. I still have the stock cat so I imagine if I had a full akra exhaust and a power commander I would have some serious gains up top. But the mid range torque and instant on throttle torque is totally nuts. Cracking on the throttle at about 4k is insane, I literally slid back and the pillion seat hit me in the ass unexpectedly and kinda hurt lol.
Do I recommend it? Yes. The sound legit makes it worth it if nothing else. But the extra power, torque and quite frankly insane throttle response. Yes yes triple yes.

Got the stage 2.with the extra 80 velocity stack. With the online video very easy install. Amazing the 1300cc bike is so restricted bij the std airbox... as every factory bike these days. This deff solved that problem and can suck air all over.love the looks to bad ye cant see it..

Even with my factory cat and new exhaust flapper valve in place, the Rottweiler Intake System (along with their Fueling Dongles) transformed my '17 1290 Superduke into a deep-breathing, well-fueled BEAST with more power, much better throttle response and a very smooth engine! There is also noticeably more torque available throughout the power band. Blip the throttle and it barks like a full-race engine plus installation was easy following Rottweiler's instructions and videos. Install one...you'll love it because they work. Really............

I had the Stage 5 kit installed with every performance upgrade, worth every penny!! The power and torque gain is 1000% noticeable. If someone asked me to describe my SuperDuke 1290 R with the Stage 5 intake with one word, it would be "Violent" but in a good way!! No bike hits like a Big Twin!!! I Bleed Orange!! Thanks to the company Rottweiler performance, you are doing a really good and quality tuning. After installation Intake stage 3+ Velocity Stack 80*40, my super duke 1290r 2014 got such a rush of power that I could not even think about, and also the sound of the exhaust and engine performance changed. Now he is actually the best beast of all KMT) Thank you Rottweiler Performance you are the best company for KTM! =)

Top quality and fit, make sure you read the instructions or you might miss some small details like I did. Easy to install and plastic guard fit easily even though some said they had problems on forums. Make sure your filter is not over oiled or you will get some dribbles over your wiring and engine. Great product and had really opened it up.

I purchased and installed the stage 3 intake to go along with the full akro exhaust on my 2016 Super duke and could not be happier. The noise from the intake is awesome. Big difference in low end smoothness. Not only is the product great but everyone I have dealt with or talked to from this company is great. I may be one person but you have a life customer with me. 1290 SDR: I have installed Rottweiler Intake performance (with 2 TVS-80 Tuned Velocity Stack), fueling dongle, and did the SAS (+ canister) removal. I have also a slip-on SCProject. I was already in love with my bike before, but with the new intake, love has become passion! The bike is smooth at low RPM, no more popping deceleration sounds like I had before (although I kinda liked it), and when you twist the throttle ... WOW! It was actually hard to keep the front wheel (firmly) on the ground WFO 3rd gear and even 4th WITH TRACTION CONTROL ON. This was a quick test ride just after installation, but I can't wait to do track day when spring come (being on East coast, I am currently hibernating keeping my bike and my body in the warmth of my home/garage. lol). To any 1290 SDR proud owner, go for it, you won't be disappointed.

I have been reading the many positive reviews regarding the Rottweiler Intake System and decided to add it to my upgrade list. I also opted to get the extra Velocity Stack with my system. I recently had the Full Akrapovic Ti Exhaust system installed on my bike and just knew the Rottweiler would take it to the next level. I had a local performance shop install the Airbox for me while they were installing my Rapid Bike Evo Fuel Module. Words cannot describe the level of performance improvement!! And it makes the most delightful inductive roar sound ever!!! When I unpacked and inspected the kit before handing it over the shop for installation it was of outstanding quality. The tech that installed it tells me the installation was very straight forward which is consistent with the "how to" video on Rottweilers Website. I would be totally comfortable with installing this system myself if it was necessary. I have so far have put about 600 miles on the bike and I am beyond pleased. I wish I had more hands so I could give it 4 thumbs up!!!

Just installing the intake with the TVS-80 stacks increased hp NOTICEABLY!!! I couldn't be happier. The debris plate is a nice touch & was easy to install. I love how it deflects the hot air from the radiator. Well done!

This product is one of the best choices I made for my SD1290. I have no idea what the KTM engineer was thinking about when he designed that monstrosity of an air intake. Thank the gods of awesomeness that Rottweiler Performance designed the holy grail of intakes. This thing took my little Duke and in a few minutes of install turned it into one of the meanest sounding Super Dukes around. You twist the throttle and it sounds like it is going to suck you pants off. Thank you Rottweiler Performance for designing this. Two thumbs way up.

I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of this intake. Everything seems to highly engineered and top notch kit. Especially the Velocity Stacks. Truly a thing of beauty. Install was a lot easier than I thought it would be. It’s pretty much straight forward. The deflector shield was a little tricky but since it’s bendable it went in pretty quick.
I love the intake growl. It sounds amazing. And wheelies through the first 3 gears are even easier!

Getting the complete package is well worth it. When combined with the SAS removal and a de-cat exhaust, your SD will be smoother, faster, (and most suprisingly to me) much more streetable in the low revs. Get it!

Updating your stock intake system to this great product is the best thing you can do to your Super Duke R 1290. Airflow ingreases and so does the performance. Dynojet Powercommander V is a great buy when you want to take it to the max.

Even if this intake didn't boost performance, it's worth the improvement over stock for filtering efficiency since the stock unit is notorious for leaking. KTM really dropped the ball on the stock airbox/filter.

I purchased the Stage 3 Intake Kit (I already had an exhaust and link pipe) and would highly recommend that any SD 1290 owner do the same: improved mid-range that is noticeable, *ballistic* power at wide open throttle, and cured the steady throttle engine surging issue that my stock bike had. I used the Power commander map from the Rottweiler website, I have not done a custom tune yet. Also, the install wasn't too difficult; the videos on the Rottweiler site are very helpful. Great customer support. All in all, a great experience!

Installed the stage 3 airbox/SAS eliminator,airbox, and both 80mm stacks. Along with some exhaust mods and aftermarket tuning, I finally have a fire breathing engine that is even smoother than factory stock. If you are willing to research the 1290, you can actually choose components to increase HP/torque while at the same time, make the engine smoother.

Shipping was really fast, quality made product, performance gains were a huge plus. However, I was a little disappointed that no installation instructions were provided with the kit, they provide them with the SAS delete and fueling dongle kit. The install was by no means difficult but it just took longer to make sure everything was installed in the right place. Still cant figure out the exact placement of the shield. In the end, still a happy customer.
Rottweiler Note: All of our installation instructions are downloadable online at 'downloads/instructions'. We do this so that we can provide excellent detail.

Excellent mod - highly recommended. Simple install, cleans up the bottom end dramatically. Induction noise is brilliant, makes you feel more connected with the motor. Improves dust collection as the stock filter is a joke.

The 1290 SD-R is a BEAST! everyone knows this fact. I installed this along with the TVS-80 and Stage 3 SAS Removal. The power is Amazing and everywhere! Most bolt on parts Are boring and give little performance. I can tell you this gain is Palpable! No more hesitation when the throttle bodies slam open. Smooth power from off idle right up to the rev limit. Amazing! Buy it NOW! I cant wait to do some ECU tuning!

What a great upgrade!! The seat of your pants dyno says this air box is producing a lot more power!! I installed the power commander and the air box at the same time and it really woke the 1290 up!! The base plate design is very good and the installation process was actually enjoyable.

Top quality. Everything is included (even orange zip ties) and fits perfectly. More midrange power and torque with intoxicating intake noise. The plastic debris plate is certainly an improvement as you can bend it for insatllation.
