The long awaited 2nd generation Rottweiler Performance Steering Damper for the KTM Super Duke 1290 (14-16) is finally here.
The 1290 is a beast to say the least, and as expected, the stock damper is insufficient. The bike just wants to go fast and wheelie and setting down can be a nervous experience to say the least.
Enter the Rottweiler Performance Damper Kit. Machined from high quality US mil spec 6061 T6 aluminum, then type 2 black anodized to form a no compromise damper assembly.
Utilizing the industry standard Scotts steering damper with 'Road' valving, the Scotts stabilizer has every gram of adjustability you will need to stay in total control with overall valving adjustments, sweep control and what the Super Duke 1290 needs the most, high-speed-damping to handle those nasty set-downs with ease and wrangle that beast into submission.
Don't like the feel of a damper but want one to 'kick in' when the time is right? Unlike linear dampers that only have damping adjustability, Scotts dampers also have 'Sweep Control' and 'High Speed' valving. The sweep control will allow the degree of damping from center out, and the high speed damping will allow the rider to dial down the damping to almost nothing for quick steering, but then set the high speed circuit to only kick in when the handlbars are jerked away faster than the rider normally steers. This is INVALUABLE for setting down wheelies and pot holes.
NOTES: The plastic tank cover must be slightly modified for this damper kit. See instructions here for more.
If you already have a Scotts 'Road Style' damper, you may omit the damper from this kit. In it's place you will receive the proper link arm and link arm removal tool.
If supplying your own Scotts damper (usually carried over from a sold bike) DO NOT use an 'Off Road' style Scotts damper with this kit as it does not dampen back to center. An important aspect of street dampening.
The Rottweiler Performance SD Damper Kit comes complete with:
Optional kit parts:
We visit Scotts Performance to find out how to adjust and take full advantage of a damper with near unlimited settings. This instructional vid will breakdown how to tune the settings for street use to straight line speed testing so tank slappers don't ruin your day. Any rider with this product needs to see this.

After a nasty tank slapper I knew the 1290 needed a better steering damper. After a lot of review reading I decided to have this damper kit delivered to the UK and I'm so glad I did, it's absolute quality and made a massive difference to the handling.
If you want the best quality damper for the 1290 this is it.

Not much to say but this is the best Damper Kit for the 1290 out there, I don't think there will be any other damp combination that could surpass this kit, the damper offers great feedback to the steering with high & low speed dampening.
The quality of the kit is top of the self, the instructions are perfect anyone could fit this damper kit. I would recommend this damper to everyone.

The Scott's Damper with Rottweiler mounting kit is a must have to calm the 1290 SD down. The standard damper might look the goods but is nowhere near strong enough for the bike. I like the Scott's flexibility which allows you to dial up the degree of damping to suit the road and riding style, plus high & low speed damping circuit.
As expected from Rottweiler the product comes well packaged, both the damper and mounting kit are well made. The box has all the bits needed to allow a quick and simple installation. This includes drill bit, eze out and torx bit. A nice touch is the small sachet of anti seize! If needed their website has detailed step by step installation directions if needed.
First ride impressions are very good, particularly on bad surfaced roads under full power where the bike used to become unsettled. I'm pleased to report this is now a thing of the past.
Well done Rottweiler, you are setting a very high standard in product quality.

The Scott's damper & Rottweiler mounting kit have made an enormous difference to the 1290's stability. The standard unit was no where near good enough to make the front end behave, particularly on rough roads under full power. I like the flexibility of the Scott's unit which allows high & low speed adjustment to suit your riding and road conditions. As expected with Rottweiler products everything from the packaging to quality of components is first class. The mounting kit comes with everything needed to mount the brackets, including drill bit, ezeout and antitheft torx bits, even a small tube of anti seize! Detailed instructions are available on the website if you get lost! A job well done!

Powering hard off a corner, cresting a hill while WOT, hitting a pothole, landing a wheelie would all cause nasty shakes on my 1290. After fitting the Scotts damper using this mounting kit all that is gone with no loss in steering response or low speed issues. It's a really well designed mount which you can fit in about 45 minutes. Everything included even some tools to remove a couple of headless bolts. I have setup the damper sweep settings at the 6 o'clock position and increased sensitivity on the high speed settings 1/4 turn - very very nice feel to the bike and not a hint of shake in places that I got it every time before. I'm not a mechanical wizard and the fitting/setup was easy. I keep coming back to Rottweiller for solutions for my KTM because they are well designed and very nicely manufactured. This is in my opinion a much more powerfull solution than buying the KTM power parts tripple clamp and WP linear damper for big money and it comes in at a fraction of the cost. Very happy.
